Salah’s Egypt rattled as the Super Eagles clinch a win on Tuesday night.

Nigeria easily defeated Egypt in their Africa Cup of Nations Group D opener, thanks to Kelechi Iheanacho’s goal.

In the 30th minute, the Leicester City striker opened the scoring with a stunning half-volley on the turn.

Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy saved a Taiwo Awoniyi header and twice denied Chidera Ejuke as Nigeria dominated the game.

After falling behind in Garoua, the Pharaohs offered little in response.

Egypt struggled for much of the game, managing only one shot in the first 70 minutes.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who has stated his desire to remain at Anfield, was repeatedly isolated up front as Nigeria dictated the tempo of the game.

With 20 minutes remaining, the forward was played through by substitute Ahmed Sayed, but his shot was saved by Nigeria keeper Maduka Okoye’s legs.

On Saturday (16:00 GMT), Nigeria will face Sudan in Group D, while Egypt will face Guinea-Bissau (19:00 GMT).
