La-Liga: Barcelona held to a 2-2 draw by Osasuna.
In a disappointing 2-2 draw with Osasuna on Sunday afternoon at El Sadar, Barcelona failed to recover from their home defeat to Real Betis the previous weekend and their Champions League elimination at the hands of Bayern Munich the week before.
Nico Gonzalez scored his first goal for the club in the 11th minute, giving Barcelona the lead for the first time in the match. He was able to put the ball past Sergio Herrera in the Osasuna goal thanks to a superbly timed run.
This lead did not last long, as the home side equalized just two minutes later when David Garcia leaped highest from a freekick to nod his team level, despite Barcelona’s poor set piece defending.
Barcelona headed into the halftime break having not performed at their best and in need of a boost in the second half.
At half-time, there were no changes, and the second period began perfectly for Xavi’s men as Abde Ezzalzouli sent one past Herrera, restoring his side’s lead following an uncomfortable wait for a VAR review.
Barcelona appeared to be well on their way to securing the three points heading into the final moments, but Osasuna’s Chimy Avila produced a moment of magic with a magnificent first-time shot from the edge of the box that soared past Marc-Andre Ter Stegen in goal on 86 minutes.
The visitors were on top in the closing minutes but hurried their attacking play too frequently and were unable to find a winner.
Barcelona have lost five points in their previous two matches and are currently eighth, 15 points behind leaders Real Madrid, who face Atletico Madrid on Sunday evening.
