Brighton 1 – 4 Manchester City: Humiliation for Graham Potter`s side as Foden scores a brace

Brighton 1 – 4 Manchester City: Pep Guardiola’s side puts four past the hosts

Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring for Manchester City after Brighton keeper Robert Sanchez spilled the ball to Bernardo Silva. Phil Foden then scored a brace, with his second goal coming when Gabriel Jesus’ shot went in off him.

After a poor first-half, Brighton were much improved in the second, creating several good chances. Ederson gave away a penalty which was put away by Alexis Mac Allister to give Brighton some late hope City eventually regained momentum and got the fourth goal in stoppage time thanks to Riyad Mahrez. Manchester City took a dominant victory inspired by a ruthless first-half performance by Pep Guardiola’s men. This win took City up to second, hot on Chelsea’s tail.

Guardiola gave his roulette wheel a spin, and it landed on Foden to act as his false nine. Not that it matters too much, considering how fluid City are. Guardiola’s players drift and make themselves so difficult to track. The youngster displayed an impressive performance by scoring a brace.

Mahrez and Gundogan also scored a goal each too.

Graham Potter’s boys got one goal back – an 81st-minute penalty scored by Alexis Mac Allister – but then City capped another excellent evening with a fourth.
