German Bundesliga: Augsburg vs. Bayern Munich Pre-match Review

On returning from the international break, Augsburg will be facing Bayern Munich on Friday night at the WWK Arena at 8:30 pm WAT.

Bayern Munich will begin their 2021-22 season away to struggling Augsburg on Friday night to make it five wins in a row in the Bundesliga.

Julian Nagelsmann’s team is now in the first place, four points ahead of second-placed Borussia Dortmund, with Augsburg in 16th place with only nine points in their first 11 games.

Augsburg finished 13th in the Bundesliga last season, only three points ahead of 16th place, and it appears like the club will face another difficult season as they fight to stay in the league.

Indeed, they have only scored nine times in the league this season, which is the third-worst record behind Arminia Bielefeld and Greuther Furth, with a history of two wins, three draws, and six defeats from 11 matches, bringing them nine points, which is only good enough for 16th place at this stage.

Augsburg won their previous home game 4-1 against Stuttgart at the end of October, but they went into the international break with a 1-0 loss against Wolfsburg on November 6.

Bayern, meanwhile, won 2-1 at Allianz Arena against Freiburg before the international break, with Leon Goretzka and Robert Lewandowski scoring for the hosts.

Since a surprising 2-1 setback to Eintracht Frankfurt at the start of October, the German champions have won each of their four league matches, including a 5-2 victory at Union Berlin in their most recent away fixture.

Bayern has 28 points after nine victories, one tie, and one loss in 11 games, putting them four points ahead of Dortmund in the second position.

Nagelsmann’s side lost 5-0 to Borussia Monchengladbach in the German Cup at the end of October. Still, they have already qualified for the Champions League knockout phase, winning all four of their Group E games to lie six points clear of Barcelona.

Bayern Munich has been prolific in front of goals this season, both in Europe and the Bundesliga, scoring 40 goals so far, with Lewandowski leading the way with 13 goals.
