Mason Greenwood, who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, missed Manchester United’s match against Watford at Vicarage Road, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed at his prematch interview with MUTV.
Greenwood, along with Marcus Rashford, was one of the Manchester United players that chose to practice with the team’s under-23 side instead of playing in the matches during the international break.
As a result of his diagnosis, he will miss nearly a week of football for the club. United will face Villarreal in the Champions League before returning to the Premier League to face Chelsea, which might be one of Solskjaer’s toughest games of the season.
Greenwood was one of the players who started the game alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in the front line as United lost their last Premier League game against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City club at Old Trafford.
Greenwood’s absence could allow Jadon Sancho more playing time since he can start on the team’s right-wing as we saw against Watford.
