Jose Mourinho Reacts to Tottenham Conte’s Appointment
Jose Mourinho thinks Tottenham had let go of an excellent coach after Nuno Espirito was relieved of his duties earlier this week. Spurs had won 5 and lost 5 of their opening ten games this season under their former boss. He was sacked for the defeats and the disappointing display of the team during matches, particularly the 3-0 heavy defeat to a wounded Manchester United. This resulted in the former Wolves boss being axed on Monday.
Serial title winner Antonio Conte signed an 18-month contract with the North London club on Tuesday. The players and staff’s mood reportedly changed and was lifted, especially since the team has had a very dreary start to the season’s campaign.
Mourinho, who managed Spurs before their recent boss was axed, gave his little verdict on the team’s managerial switch;
“I think Conte is a good coach, but Nuno is a very good coach,” he said. “He did a fantastic job at Wolverhampton for 4-5 years, not one year or a few months. That’s why I say Tottenham have a very good coach now, but they also had that with Nuno.”
While it started with Mourinho being unhappy with Conte’s antics during Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over United in 2016, the spat continued over time, with the former indicating he thought of the latter as a ‘clown’ for his exuberant celebrations. Conte frequently called his Blues predecessor a ‘little man’ after a 0-0 draw with Norwich
