Following a series of uninspiring performances, Juventus finally managed to put on a real show when they hosted Zenit St. Petersburg on the fourth matchday of the Champions League Group Stage. The Italians needed a single point to seal their qualification to the Round of 16, but they were adamant about making a statement.

Paulo Dybala was the main star of the show, scoring two goals and setting up Alvaro Morata with an assist, and Federico Chiesa added his name to the score sheet with a brilliant solo effort. On the other hand, Leonardo Bonucci gifted the Russians an own goal and Sardar Azmoun grabbed a late consolation to end it 4-2.

This win made them qualify for the knockout stages making them one of the only two teams to do so. The Turin club coach was happy with his team’s performances;

“The team had a good game, we were also impressive technically,” coach Massimiliano Allegri said. “Our intensity and courage were important and we did not lose our flow when we conceded the goal. It was almost all positive. We passed the ball around, but the last five minutes are where we need to improve. Those minutes are the emblem of who we are — we made three counter-attacks and we conceded a goal.”

juventusThough they’ve been on a disappointing run in Serie A standing ninth on the table and 16 points behind league leaders Napoli, they’ve won all their champions league games this season and they are sitting pretty good at the top of the Group H table.
