Manchester United star singled out for blame over loss to Wolves

Manchester United Star singled out for blame over loss to Wolves.

For his part in Wolves’ 1-0 win over Manchester United on Monday, Arsenal great Ian Wright singled out midfielder Scott McTominay for criticism.

Joao Moutinho’s late goal gave Manchester United their first defeat since Ralf Rangnick’s appointment as interim manager.

When Moutinho had time to score, Wright accused the Scot of failing to close him down.

According to Metro, Wright in his words said “We can nitpick and say where the header from Phil Jones should have gone but at the same time you have got to be more aware of where you, the holding midfielder are going in defensively to try and stop him [Moutinho]”.

“Look  how much time Moutinho has got – McTominay is the one who is closest to try and get to him. If he is in the team, he’s got to be in the team to do that job!”

“He’s not in the team to do anything progressive because he hasn’t done anything progressive. If he’s going to be that defensive holding midfielder then you do that job. He didn’t do it.”

With the loss, United fell farther behind in their quest to finish in the first four this season.

With a game in hand, Ralf Rangnick’s team now trail fourth-placed Arsenal by four points.
