In the wake of Rashford’s departure from the England squad, Smith-Rowe receives his first call-up

Following Rashford’s departure from the group due to injury concerns, Arsenal’s talented attacking midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe has received his first England call-up.

This would be his first call-up since breaking into Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team and becoming a regular starter.

So far this season, the 21-year-old has a total of 5 goals and 2 assists in all competitions. He’s proven to be a very versatile player who can play in all four attacking areas along the front line.

Gareth Southgate will be without Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse, so he would be an excellent alternative.

However, if England are comfortably ahead of Albania or San Marino, the teenager is expected to start on the bench and possibly earn some minutes against them.

Smith-Rowe’s game saw him score the game’s only goal against Watford, ensuring Arsenal’s triumph. In eight games, he has 7 direct goal contributions and fully merits this call-up.
