Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich suffered a shock home defeat by Borussia Monchengladbach.

Bayern fielded a weakened team due to the absence of over a dozen players, including nine without Covid-19.

Midway through the first half, Robert Lewandowski scored his 20th Bundesliga goal of the season with a screamer of a shot.

The Bundesliga’s third-placed side Gladbach, however, scored twice in four minutes to win the match.

Striker Florian Neuhaus equalized with a volley and Stefan Lainer headed in from a corner to give the visitors the lead after 31 minutes.

Bayern struggled without key players like Manuel Neuer, Lucas Hernandez, Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sane, Alphonso Davies, and Kingsley Coman despite dominating early in the game at the Allianz Arena due to Covid restrictions in Germany.

As a result of Robert Lewandowski’s goal, Bayern Munich have now scored in each of their last 65 Bundesliga games, matching the record they set in 2014.

Even though their five-match winning streak in the Bundesliga has come to an end, they still lead second-placed Borussia Dortmund by nine points. Gladbach have risen to a new position of 11th in the Bundesliga.
