UCL: Edin Dzeko’s brace against Shaktar Donetsk sends Inter top of Group D
Edin Dzeko’s brace sent Inter Milan top of Group D and closer to the knockout stages against Shaktar Donetsk at the San Siro.
Both teams played out a goalless draw in the first half of the game even as Inter dominated much of the game.
In the 61st minute, Edin Dzeko found the back of the net after Perisic’s early cross eventually led to a crisp strike from Dzeko on the edge of the box and barely 6 minutes after opening the score sheet, he nets in another goal to seal a comfortable lead.
Ivan Perisic also had a goal disallowed for an offside.
Shakhtar Donetsk rallied and were extremely unlucky not to score when Dodo’s close-range attempt bounced off the near post, rolled along the goal line, and out before Mykhailo Mudryk could tap in at the back stick.
In stoppage time, Stefano Sensi forced another spectacular save from Trubin.
Inter Milan sits top of the table with 10 points and only a point behind Real Madrid who will face Sheriff by 9pm in the day.
A comfortable win by Real Madrid will send Madrid top while Milan trails by 2 points.
